Not so long ago I was invited to speak at the annual Moscow Youth Eco-Forum. The report was devoted to the interaction of the press and environmental organizations. Gathered representatives of public organizations and movements, ecological orientation are enthusiastic about what I said in terms of media cooperation and use them as platforms for discussions on the topic and for "educational activities". pity that not paid proper attention to a third party - the authorities who, in my opinion, now is not particularly seek to cooperate with any ekoorganizatsiyami, nor, especially, with the press.
And that's why I was upset. Back in March, when preparing the bulk of this material, I called Olga and asked to answer a series of question about the environmental situation in the area and to share statistics on indicators of pollution in recent years. The voice of my companion sounded skeptical. Questions that I sent to her by fax, she commented as "not within its competence" (list attached below) and told to wait until April of the annual data for environmental monitoring. Of course, print something without expert opinion it would be wrong, so I'll wait ... And now our meeting. Already in the first sentence Olga doubted:

In general, such a request is not uncommon, but I replied that it was ready to accept changes on only the word itself companion, if, God forbid, accidentally will be distorted.
- But the story may be filed in a different way. I would not like to see something in what manner is not necessary. Although we the cleanest district - but everywhere is not without its shortcomings - zealous Olga. - And I would not want to speculate on that.
- But the Internet free space, and understandably so, that if someone has something negative comments - this is normal. We have heroes and publications discussing and authors. Authorities should be ready for this.
Then began a half-hour conversation about journalism. And it's true - the journalist is always between some lights. Write that All is well (even if more or less well in fact) - sign on the zakazuha "administration. Write that everything is bad (and this often happens in life) - Sign that the "black PR" on the order of the opponents of the administration. Keep silent about something, shalt deliver material neutral - or do not read or sign: "What's mediocrity this author! Nothing finally can ... "(and it's flowers). And no one seems to wonder what this journalist has never serves no one's order (neither society nor the state), but to his conscience and his own thoughts. Yes, this is why journalism is subjective - in this its charm. I myself a long time ago, like a normal person does not respond to any comments and publish the materials on the Internet, although an interesting discussion interesting to support. And that's the whole gusto - a journalist should give rise to discussion! This seems to me could not manage to convey to Olga Nikolaevna. That is she actively refuses to believe that if someone signs under my stuff in the comments, "I think that Olga Voloshin dishonest because something and because of that - it's healthy for the development of civil society. And the authorities - not those who subjugates all, and those who solve problems. And the media - is no staff, who writes, where and when I went to the head, and the public voice, which points out the problems and mistakes - not because he hates power, but because any government there are mistakes, and they must be corrected. Therefore, the reporter always says that something is wrong. True, the government calls it criticism and open confrontation. A feeling that when an officer gets a job, he thinks that performs representative functions. And actually - He (or she) as an ombudsman, who will still always someone dissatisfied (subject, in whose favor it will make a decision). And it's part of his professional duties - Take this situation for granted! In addition, the journalist can not and should not stop the flow of reader opinions and conclusions, because they are again subjective. And if that contained in them does not contradict the current legislation - this is normal!
Another question not long in coming: - Are you sure that you will do the research? Are you an ecologist?
Another misconception. A journalist for a journalist and that having an analytical mind, can match any of the facts and analyze them the same, no matter from what they regard. However, the first reaction to this a statement from me, of course, was an insult for our profession and logical answer: "But does society and power, including not to trust journalists?". "And where I know that you are there please? "- the rational justification for the censors. And by the way, Russia's level of trust in general is one of the lowest in the country - and this directly affects on the economy (for example, a characteristic feature of our business - the lack of equal partners).

As a result, Olga Voloshin answered all those questions, which were originally rejected. To my astonishment remark "why she did so in the beginning?" followed by something like: "I according to the law are not supposed to disclose statistics that the competence federal authorities. " Monitoring data I also did not provide - they, as Olga puts it, is not secret, but they are official document.
